Hungary: Joci Pápai wins A Dal 2017

After five shows, eight finalists were determined, tonight the sixth show was held and the winner was chosen: Joci Pápai with the song "Origo"

Tonight, the final of A Dal was held in Budapest, Hungary in MTVA's studio. The final was hosted by Tatár Csilla and Harsányi Levente. The special guests were Freddie, who represented Hungary in Eurovision last year; Benji - one of the other contestants and Caramel - one of the judges.

The winner was chosen by two rounds of voting. Firstly, after all eight contestants had performed, each of the four judges scored 4, 6, 8 and 10 points to their top-4. The four entries with the most scores proceeded to the superfinal. In the superfinal the public voted for their favorite and the winner was determined.

Joci Pápai



József Pápai (35) is a hungarian singer and guitarist. He got into music quite early thanks to his brother. Sports was always a big part of his life, but he decided for music. He made his debut in 2005 when he competed in the second season of the show Megasztar, where he was eliminated in the consolation rounds.

His first big success was with the song "Ne nézz így rám". In 2006 he collaborated with the rapper Majka and from there on with a few other famous singers in Hungary.

Last year, in December it was reveal that he will be competing in A Dal which he eventually won.

Hungary has participated in Eurovision Song Contest 14 times since its debut in1994. The Best resultwas in the debuting year 1994 where the song "Kinek Mondjam El Vétkeimet" went 4th. Since the introduction of the Semi-finals in 2004 Hungary has qualified for the Grand Final 8 out of 10 times - The last 6 years Hungary did qualify for the Grand Final. Their worst result was in 2008 where Hungary went last in Semi-final 2.
