Iceland: Söngvakeppnin 2016 submissions open

The Icelandic competition "Söngvakeppnin" will again choose their representative for Eurovision Song Contest. Iceland has opened for Söngvakeppnin 2016 submissions. UPDATE: Dates published

Next year Iceland will again use Söngvakeppnin to choose it's entrant for Eurovision Song Contest. The winner of Söngvakeppnin 2016 will represent Iceland in Stockholm, and also win 1 million Icelandic krona (≈ 7,040 EUR).

Söngvakeppnin 2016

Söngvakeppnin 2016 consists of two semi-finals and one final:

  • 6 February 2016: Semi-final 1
  • 13 February 2016: Semi-final 2
  • 20 February 2016: Final

Six songs will compete in each semi-final, and three songs from each will qualify to the final. The six songs that didn't qualify from one of the semi-finals get a second chance to go to the final. After the second semi-final, an expert jury will award one of the eliminated songs a wildcard to the final.

All three shows will be broadcasted live.

The submission period for Söngvakeppnin 2016 is now open. It closes on 2 November 2015 at 11:59.

Just like last year, all the songs must be performed in Icelandic language at the semi-finals of Söngvakeppnin. If a song proceeds to the final of Söngvakeppnin the song shall be performed in the language intended for Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm.
