Latvia: Triana Park wins Supernova 2017

All Sundays in February are Supernova Sundays. Tonight we had the Final in the Riga Beaver show from Latvia, where four artists fought for the ticket to Eurovision 2017. Watch the winning performance here!

Latvia held it's fourth show of the Eurovision selection Supernova 2017 tonight, with four finalists: The Latvian public have spoken: After five failed attempts to represent Latvia at Eurovision Song Contest, The neon glow group Triana Park finally won Supernova 2017 with the song "Line", and will now represent Latvia in Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv.

The song "Line" is written by Agnese Rakovska, Kristaps Ērglis and Kristians Rakovskis.

Supernova 2017 – Results

  1. Triana Park – "Line" (51.6% of the votes)
  2. My Radiant You – "All I Know" (19% of the votes)
  3. Santa Daņeļeviča – "Your Breath" (16.5% of the votes)
  4. The Ludvig – "I'm in Love With You" (12.9% of the votes)

Triana Park

Triana Park (Latvian: Triānas Parks) consists of Agnese Rakovska (vocal), Artūrs Strautiņš (guitar), Edgars Viļums (drums), and Kristaps Ērglis (bas).

They play mainly electronic music, and had previously attempted to represent Latvia at Eurovision in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Supernova 2017

Supernova 2017 consisted of four shows: Two heats, one semi-final and a final. LTV broadcasted two introductory shows on 22 and 29 January 2017 that covered the background preparation processes and performer auditions that occur prior to the competition.

  • Heat 1: 5 February 2017 (four qualified to the semi-final)
  • Heat 2: 12 February 2017 (four qualified to the semi-final)
  • Semi-Final: 19 February 2017 (four qualified to the final)
  • Final: 26 February 2017

Each of the two heats qualified four songs for the Semi-final. Public televoting selected two semi-finalists, and a jury panel selected two others. In the semi-final, the public selected two finalists and the jury selected two finalists.

In the final, the public televoters exclusively decided the winner og Supernova 2017.

22 acts competes in this year's Supernova in Latvia. The broadcaster received 168 applications and chose up to 50 to audition in front of a jury with representatives from the music industry: Petri Mannonen (Universal Music), Matthias Miller (BMG), Fružina Zepa (Lollapalooza Berlin) and Joy Deb (co-writer of "Heroes" - Sweden 2015).The 22 songs have been presented in two "Introductory shows", aired on 22 January and 29 January 2017, and allocated to the two heats of Supernova 2017.

All four shows were broadcasted from LTV Studio 6 in Riga.

Latvia in Eurovision Song Contest

Latvia appeared in Eurovision Song Contest in 2000, and since the debut, the country has participated every year (16 times) in the contest. The best result was in 2002, where Latvia won Eurovision Song Contest with the song "I Wanna" by Marie N.

The last seven years Latvia only managed to qualify for the Grand Final last year (Aminata Savadogo - " Love Injected") - three of the years they went last in their semi-finals!
