Czech Republic: Gabriela Gunčíková – "I Stand"
The Czech broadcaster has selected Gabriela Gunčíková to represent them at Eurovision Song Contest 2016. She will sing "I Stand". Will she secure Czech Republic their first Grand Final ever?
The Czech broadcaster Česká televize (ČT) has selected Gabriela Gunčíková to sing "I Stand" at Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm. The song is written by Christian Schneider, Sara Biglert and Aidan O'Connor.
ČT confirmed in summer 2015 that Eurovision 2016 would include a song from Czech Republic. Later it was announced that they will select internally, and that the ČT-jury had shortlisted three songs.
Czech Republic in Eurovision Song Contest
It is the fifth time Czech Republic participates in Eurovision Song Contest. After four years of very bad results (2007, 2008, 2009), they decided to withdraw from the competition for five years, with only 10 points on their Eurovision-account. But their hope for Eurovision never died, so they returned last year with "Hope Never Dies" by Marta & Václav. It finished 13th in Semi-final 2, which is also the best result for the Czech Republic. They have never qualified for the Grand Final.
