Portugal: Listen to the 20 songs competing in Festival da Canção 2025

The 20 songs competing at this year's Festival da Canção have been released. The winning song will be chosen in March and represent Portugal in Eurovision 2025

Just a few moments ago, Portuguese broadcaster RTP held its usual press conference in order to present the artists and songs that will be competing at Festival da Canção 2025.

The event was held in Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon and hosted by Festival da Canção host, Vasco Palmeirim.

Some curiosities about the event were shared but the main focus was, obviously, the artists and songs taking part. It's worth noting that RTP had already unveiled the list of composers. Out of the 20, 14 were invited directly by RTP whereas six were selected via open submission. All of those had the option to take the chance and sing their own song in the national selection or invite another artist to do so.

Portugal's Festival da Canção 2025 will have three shows, all held live in RTP's studios in Lisbon:

  • Semi-final 1: 22 February 2025
Hosted by José Carlos Malato and Jorge Gabriel
  • Semi-final 2: 1 March 2025
Hosted by Tânia Ribas de Oliveira and Sónia Araújo
  • Final: 8 March
Hosted by Filomena Cautela and Vasco Palmeirim

Ten acts will compete in each Semi-final and the best six from each will qualify for the Final.

Portugal in Eurovision

Portugal has participated in the contest 55 times since 1964. It was a very bad start, as they managed to get zero points in their debut year.

Before Eurovision 2017, they had never won the contest, and had never made the top 5. In fact, Portugal held the record for most appearances in the contest without a win!

But that changed in 2017, when Salvador Sobral won with "Amar Pelos Dois."

The Black Mamba - "Love Is On My Side"

Since the introduction of the Semi-finals in 2004, Portugal has only qualified for the Grand Final 9 out of 18 times.
