It's September! The Eurovision 2025 season has arrived
The newest Eurovision season is upon us. Every song released from today onwards may just find its way over to the Eurovision 2025 stage to be held in Switzerland. Let's recap what we know so far about Eurovision 2025
September has arrived and whereas it may be a disappointing date to many people as Summertime is coming to an end in just a few days, Eurovision fans won't certainly be amongst those as 1st September represents a new beginning of their favorite show and a brand new Eurovision season.
Just yesterday, the EBU announced that Basel will be hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 along with the dates:
- Semi-final 1: 13 May 2025
- Semi-final 2: 15 May 2025
- Grand Final: 17 May 2025
From today onwards, a lot of news related to the show will start popping up. Moreover, further details regarding the upcoming and intimidating national selection season from the various competing countries will be confirmed and our (yet to be completed) Eurovision calendar will gain a bigger form. At last, and most importantly, every song released from now on is a potential Eurovision song! Isn't that exciting?
25 countries (including a returning country, Montenegro) have already expressed their interest in taking part in Eurovision 2025. An official response by those and the remaining eligible countries is expected to come up to mid-October.
What do we know about Eurovision 2025 so far?
Well, besides the city, venue and dates, not much more. But then again, that's the most relevant information as we can start planning our trip to Basel. As usual, details about ticket sales will be unveiled at a later stage.
In the meantime, and even before Eurovision 2024 was a wrap, a few countries had already confirmed their plans for next year's event. Up until today, multiple countries have announced they'll be hosting a national selection contest in order to select their next Eurovision star. This includes Montenegro, who will return for Eurovision 2025.
Others are yet to provide details but a few have already announced the dates when their respective selection contests will happen. Let's take a look:
If no changes come about, Albania will certainly be one of the first countries to select its candidate via a national selection competition. Festivali i Këngës usually happens by the end of December. Luxembourg should be the next one to hold a televised event that should happen in January.
Spain's Benidorm Fest will take place on 28 and 30 January with its Final scheduled for 1 February. Italy, another Big-5 country, will hold its long Sanremo nights from 11 to 15 February. It will also be on 15 February that Lithuania will pick its representative through Eurovizija.LT 2025. A week later, it will be San Marino's turn with Una Voce per San Marino 2025.
Portugal should start its search by the end of February and wrap it in March, as well as Denmark selecting its candidate on 1 March. Both countries will stick with their national selection contests: Festival da Canção and Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.
Last but not least, Latvia and Finland are also expected to select their representatives in February and should be using their yearly national selection competitions: Supernova and UMK.
Other countries such as Belgium, Israel, Norway, Serbia, and Sweden will also be hosting national selection events with further details to be revealed.
Cyprus and Switzerland have confirmed that their artist and song will be chosen internally.
