Rotterdam - Turin - Liverpool - Malmö... Basel!

Swiss Broadcasting Corporation SRG SSR and the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) have just revealed that the 69th edition of our beloved contest will be held in Basel, Switzerland. The contest will take place in St. Jakobshalle.

The dates have also been revealed:

  • Semi-final 1: 13 May 2025
  • Semi-final 2: 15 May 2025
  • Grand Final: 17 May 2025

All three live shows will start at 21:00 CEST

It will be the third time the contest will be held in Switzerland. The country also hosted Eurovision in 1956 and 1989:

  • 1956: Lugano (Teatro Kursaal)
  • 1989: Lausanne (Palais de Beaulieu)
  • 2025: Basel (St. Jakobshalle)

Four cities were initial in the host city race: Basel, Bern, Geneva and Zürich. It was narrowed down back in July to just Basel and Geneva.

Basel

Basel is located on the banks of the River Rhine in the "border triangle" close to both France and Germany. Its strategic location has historically made it a hub for commerce and trade. Basel's status as a cultural, business, and tourist hub ensures a wide range of accommodation options.

The city has a population of around 200,000 people, making it the third-largest city in Switzerland, after Zurich and Geneva.

Basel has an efficient public transportation system, including trams and buses that connect various parts of the city and surrounding regions. The city's proximity to the Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport, located just outside the city and serving Switzerland, France, and Germany, facilitates international travel.

St. Jakobshalle

The venue for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will be St. Jakobshalle.

The multi-purpose indoor arena is known for hosting a variety of events, including sports competitions, concerts, TV shows, and other large gatherings.

St. Jakobshalle has a flexible seating arrangement, allowing it to accommodate different types of events. The capacity can vary, but it can host up to 12,400 spectators for concerts.

The arena is home to the Swiss Indoors Basel, an annual tennis tournament that attracts top players from around the world, and hosts other sporting events such as basketball, handball, and volleyball.

It is a popular concert venue, attracting international music stars and bands. Artists like Madonna, Queen, and Rihanna have performed there.

Participants

37 countries have expressed their interest for participation in the contest, which is subject to change:

PENDING

Armenia is the only country from Eurovision 2024 that hasn't yet announced their participation in Eurovision 2025.

EBU Member Broadcasters, on behalf of their countries, had until mid-October 2024 to formally submit their applications to take part in Eurovision 2025.

Tickets

Tickets usually go out early the same year or late in the year before the contest. We expect the tickets for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 to go on sale late 2024.

The start of ticket sales depends on several factors: Firstly, the host city (Basel) and arena (St. Jakobshalle) must be chosen. Secondly, selection of the ticket agency. Thirdly, a floor plan of seats/stands in the arena once stage design, green room, and camera placement have roughly been decided.
