Germany: 15 countries to take part in Free European Song Contest

The Free European Song Contest will include new artists and songs, will be hosted by Conchita Wurst and 15 countries will be taking part in this German alternative Eurovision show

Germany is truly not accepting the fact that the Eurovision Song Contest will not be taking place due to the coronavirus.

Not only the country's public broadcaster (NDR) has already made public its alternative Eurovision plans on broadcasting all the 41 songs that were to be performed in Rotterdam and picking a winner, but the German private broadcaster ProSieben is also having its very own alternative contest.

Even though more details are yet to be confirmed, a list of 15 participating countries has been announced by ProSieben:

Austria
Bulgaria
Croatia
Denmark
Germany
Ireland
Israel
Italy
Kazakhstan
Netherlands
Poland
Spain
Switzerland
Turkey
United Kingdom

New artists and new songs

The Free European Song Contest will follow the Eurovision main concept with different countries being represented, new artists, new songs and a winner determined by national juries and the public from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

It is unknown how the 15 new artists and songs will be selected for the contest.

Each of the participating countries will award 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points. The German, Austrian and Swiss viewers can vote on their favorit songs via televoting. The points from the other countries will be decided by national juries.

The Free European Song Contest will be aired on 16 May at 20:15 CEST and presented by Conchita Wurst (Austria 2014) and TV host Steven Gätjen.
