Russia: Yulia Samoylova to Kyiv 2017
The Russian singer Yulia Samoylova will represent Russia at Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv with the song "Flame is Burning"
During today's "Vremya" news program on Russian Channel 1, it was revealed that Yulia Samoylova will represent Russia in Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv with the song "Flame is Burning".
"Flame is Burning" is written by Leonid Gutkin, Natty Nimrodi and Arye Burstein. Leonid was also one of the composers behind " What If" (Russia 2013) and "A Million Voices" (Russia 2015). Channel 1 in Russia chose Yulia Samoylova internally out of several submitted songs.
The Russian head of delegation, Jury Aksyuta, says:
– Yulia is an original singer, charming girl and experienced contestant. I think that on 11 May, millions of viewers around the world share this feeling with us.
Yulia Samoylova
Yulia Samoylova (28) was born in Ukhta, Komi Republic of Russia. She has won several music competitions in Russia and international.
In 2013 she rose to fame in the TV show "Factor Ain" (equivalent to X Factor), where she reached the second place.
In 2014 she sang the song "Together" at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi.
Russia in Eurovision Song Contest
Since 1994 Russia has participated 20 times in Eurovision Song Contest. They won the contest in 2008 with the song "Believe" performed by Dima Bilan. The last 5 years Russia finished in top 10, and have never ended last in the competition.
Russia is the only country who has qualified for the Grand Final every single year since the introduction of the semi-finals back in 2004!
