Denmark: Melodi Grand Prix 2017 in Herning
Boxen in Herning will be the venue of Melodi Grand Prix 2017. The date is set: 25 February 2017
The national selection in Denmark will take place in Herning on 25 February 2017. It was revealed today by the Danish broadcaster, Danmarks Radio (DR).
Boxen in Herning has a capacity of 15,000 in the audience. Herning hosted Melodi Grand Prix in 2001, 2009 and 2013.
The producer of the show, Jan Lagermand Lundme, entertainment manager at DR, says:
- We are going to Herning, and it will be a happy reunion. Melodi Grand Prix fits perfect to the city, and Boxen is one of the best places in the country to produce TV, so we have the ideal environment to work with. There is always a terrific atmosphere among the audience in Boxen, and it affects the show and reaches into the living rooms of all viewers, so we are really looking forward.

The deadline for submitting songs for Melodi Grand Prix 2017 ended 5 September 2016. The music producer Cutfather and a secret jury will have the responsibility to choose the songs and artists that will compete at Melodi Grand Prix 2017 in Herning.
The arena of Emmelie de Forest
Emmelie de Forest will clearly remember Boxen in Herning. She won the national selection Melodi Grand Prix 2013 in the same arena, and 4 months later she won Eurovision 2014: Only Teardrops! Boxen and Herning was in the run for hosting Eurovision Song Contest 2014, but lost the battle to Copenhagen.
Herning celebrates Melodi Grand Prix all February
Throughout the month of February 2017 Herning will be celebrating Melodi Grand Prix all over the city.
- Melodi Grand Prix will be one big party for all the citizens. Both Melodi Grand Prix and the MGP for kids the whole city is invited to the celebration, and we will also give funds for Melodi Grand Prix activities for schools, retirement homes, institutions and others for celebrating Melodi Grand Prix. We will invite retails, museums, educational institutions, restaurants and other interested parties to work together to make February 2017 one big month of Melodi Grand Prix in Herning, says Mayor of Herning, Lars Krarup.
