Georgia's song for Eurovision 2021 released: Tornike Kipiani – "You"
Tornike Kipiani has just released his song for Eurovision Song Contest 2021. He will compete for Georgia with the song "You"
Just a few days after the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Georgian national broadcaster GPB announced that Tornike Kipiani will be representing the country once again at Eurovision Song Contest. Georgia followed the path as many broadcasters did, to choose the 2020 representative once again.
Tornike Kipiani should have represented Georgia at Eurovision 2020 with the song "Take Me As I Am after winning Georgian Idol which served as an artist selection last year.
Now Tornike is back and has released his Eurovision Song Contest 2021 song "You":
"You"
The song, "You" is a mix of rock, pop-rock and blues-rock whilst having lyrics about the universal topic of love. The song has been written and composed by Tornike himself. "You" was later arranged in the Bravo Records Studio alongside Aleko Berdzenishvili. In addition to Tornike's vocals, the Gori Girls' Choir, Aleko Berdzenishvili, Marian Shengelia and Mariko Lezhava also formed part in the recording of the song.
The music video of the Georgian song, has been directed by Temo Kvirkvelia. Filming for the video took place in a number of locations. Ballet dancer Mariam Aleksidze choreographed a dance especially for the music video whilst the costumes of the dancers as done by Keti Chkhikvadze.
Tornike's stage performance in Rotterdam will be directed by Emilia Sandquist .She was
previously set to be the stage director for Tornike last year as well. Emilia is an international
creative who has dreamed up successful performances in the past for Swedish artists at
Melodifestivalen, the Swedish national final selection show. She is also a member of the Jean Baptiste Group.
Tornike Kipiani
Tornike Kipiani was born on 11th December 1987 in Tbilisi, Georgia. He is a musician and the father of three children but has a professional career as an architect. He founded his own band aged 19, he didn't even consider becoming a vocalist. So Tornike and his bandmates looked for an additional member to fill that vacant spot – and in the meantime, he would provisionally take over the vocals.
For the first time, Tornike appeared on TV in 2013, on a show called "Magtifani", where he reached the final. In 2014, He won the first season of X Factor Georgia, where his mentor was the future Georgian-Greek Cyprus Eurovision star Tamta.
In 2017, Tornike tried to represent Georgia at Eurovision. He competed in Georgia’s Eurovision 2017 national final, with the industrial techno song “You Are My Sunshine” but returned in 2019, where he won the Georgian version of Idol.
Georgia in Eurovision Song Contest
Georgia has participated in Eurovision 12 times since their debut in 2007, with the best result in 2010 and 2011 (9th place), and the worst result in 2014 and 2018 (came last in their Semi-final).
The only year Georgia didn't participate was in 2009. They decided to send the song "We Don't Wanna Put In" to Moscow 2009, but because of a controversy about the lyrics in the song, EBU banned the song from participating, if the lyrics was not changed. GPB refused to change the lyrics, and withdrew from the contest.
Georgia has managed to qualify to the Grand Final 7 out of 12 times.
