Malta: Here are the finalists for MESC 2024
The last four Fridays, 36 songs have been performed in the Semi-finals of MESC 2024. 12 songs in total have qualified for the Final
Malta will be selecting its Eurovision candidate using the same format as the previous two years, the Malta Eurovision Song Contest (or MESC).
Tonight, the last of four XOW shows took place in Malta. Each Friday from 27 October to 17 November, 36 songs were presented on the show XOW hoping to land a spot in the MESC Final.
12 songs in total have qualified for the Final of MESC 2024. The 12 songs were selected by a jury and the Maltese public:
MESC 2024 – Final
The Final of MESC 2024 will take place in January, but none of the finalists will perform live during the Final.
Prior to the Final, the 12 finalists will record a live-on-tape version of their song along with a music video. These videos will be shown at the Final of MESC 2024, and a jury and the Maltese public will vote for their favorite to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.
Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest
Malta debuted in Eurovision back in 1971, and has participated in the contest 35 times since then – without any victories.
Their best results are two runners-up finishes in 2002 (Ira Losco - "7th Wonder") and 2005 (Chiara - "Angel"). They came last in 1971, 1972 and 2006 and in their semi-final in 2023.
Since the introduction of the Semi-finals in 2004, Malta has qualified for the Grand Final 10 out of 19 times.
