Serbia: Beovizija returning to determine the Eurovision 2022 representative
The Serbian broadcaster confirms their participation for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest together with a national final to be used for Hurricane's successor
With just only a few days in from Italy's victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 whom were represented by Måneskin and their song "Zitti e buoni", Serbia have made an announcement for the next Eurovision edition which is due to be held in Italy.
Olivera Kovačević, the Head of Entertainment of RTS, has announced that Serbia will indeed by present during Eurovision 2022 and the representative will be chosen by the return of a national selection, Beovizija. This news was confirmed during a televised interview.
The last time Beovizija was used was in 2020 when Hurricane were chosen to represent the national with "Hasta La Vista". After the Eurovision 2020 had been cancelled due to the current pandemic, the Serbian broadcaster opted for an internal artist and song selection. They reselected Hurricane with the song "Loco Loco", gaining a result of 15th place in the Grand Final.
More details regarding the selection will be announced sometime in June whilst the song submissions window will open in June and then close in mid-November, with a final set to be organized in February 2022.
Serbia in Eurovision Song Contest
Serbia has been a part of Eurovision since 2007 except 2014, where they chose not to participate.
The best result was in their debuting year, where Marija Šerifović won the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song Molitva.
Out of the 13 participations they qualified to the Grand Final 10 times.
