UK: National selection for Eurovision 2016 on 26 February
United Kingdom will select it's entrant for Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in a live show called "Eurovision: You Decide" on 26 February. Six contestants will fight for representing UK in Stockholm
"Eurovision: You Decide" is the name of the live show that will choose the British act for Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm. The show will be broadcasted live on 26 February 2016 from the O2 Forum Kentish Town.
Mel Giedroyc will be hosting the 90 minute Eurovision show presenting the six competing artists as well as special musical guests. The show will be aired on BBC 4.
The six songs that will perform have been selected by both experts and fans. Members of the Eurovision fan club OGAE UK have been involved in the process, and a song-writing competition has been held by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA).
The six competing artists and songs will be revealed on 22 February 2016 on BBC Radio 2.
United Kingdom in Eurovision Song Contest
United Kingdom has participated in Eurovision Song Contest 58 times since 1957. United Kingdom only skipped the contest two times: 1956 and 1958. They have won Eurovision five times:
- 1967: Sandie Shaw - "Puppet On A String"
- 1969: Lulu - "Boom Bang-a-bang"
- 1976: Brotherhood of Man - "Save Your Kisses For Me"
- 1981: Bucks Fizz - "Making Your Mind Up"
- 1997: Katrina and The Waves - "Love Shine A Light"
...and finished in 2nd place 15 times! They only came last one time (2003), where they also entered the Club Zero.
United Kingdom is a member of "Big 5", so they don't have to go through the Semi-final qualifications, but are automatically qualified for the Grand Finals.
