Romania 2020: Roxen

Roxen will represent Romania at Eurovision 2020

Romania's broadcaster TVR has just announced that Roxen has been selected to represent Romania at Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam

Today Romania has confirmed that Roxen will represent the country at Eurovision 2020. Roxen has been internally selected by the broadcaster with advice from an expert commitee, who analyzed and identified artists based on vocal abilities, artistic performance, musical empathy and expressiveness.

Global Records had released a shortlist containing three names:

  • Roxen
  • Cezar
  • Diana V

And today the broadcaster TVR has confirmed that they have chosen Roxen.

Roxen – "Ce-ti Canta Dragostea" (NOT her Eurovision song)

Larisa Roxana Giurgiu (20) is a Romanian singer who discovered her passion for music at the age of seven.

She was featured on the track ''You Don't Love Me'' together with Romanian producer Sickotoy. This single received commercial success in Romania and was also heard on numerous radio stations in the world including France, the United States, Russia and Spain. Her primary genre is deep house.

National Final: 1 March 2020

While Romania has decided to announce their artist today, the songs for the live show won't be released to the public until the 21st of February. Five songs will be selected by a group of experts and on the first of March they will be performed by Roxen in a live show. At the show a national jury and the public (50/50) will decide which song will be sung at Rotterdam. In case of a tie vote, the public vote is decisive.

The Romanian broadcaster has decided to return to an internal selection after failing to qualify to the final for two consecutive years.

Romania was expelled from Eurovision 2016 due to unpaid dept to EBU, so the winner of Selecţia Naţională 2016, Ovidiu Anton didn't participate in Stockholm.

Since the introductions of semi-finals in 2004, Romania has qualified to the Grand Final 13 out of 15 times, only missed the 2018 and 2019 qualification.
