Romania will not participate in Eurovision 2024
Romanian broadcaster TVR has confirmed that Romania will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024
Back in December, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced the participation of 37 countries. Romania was not on the list, but the EBU emphasized that "talks are continuing with TVR on their potential participation as well."
Today, the Board of Directors at Televiziunea Română (TVR) held a meeting to discuss and approve the broadcaster's budget for 2024, including funds for the participation in Eurovision 2024.
The budget was rejected, and therefore Romania will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.

Romania was the only country from Eurovision 2023 that didn't participate in Eurovision 2024.
Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest
Romania had its debut in 1994, and has participated 23 times since. They have never won the contest, but came in 3rd in 2005 (Luminita Anghel & Sistem - "Let Me Try") and 2010 (Paula Seling & Ovi - "Playing With Fire"). Their worst result was in 2023 where they finished with zero points in their semi-final.
Since the introduction of the Semi-finals in 2004, Romania has qualified for the Grand Final 14 out of 18 times.
