Netherlands 2019: Eva Simons
NETHERLANDS

Dutch media speculate: Eva Simons to represent the Netherlands in 2019?

After Dutch commentator Cornald Maas confirmed that the Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 has been selected, Dutch media now speculate about one possible singer in particular: Eva Simons

The speculations started after a post in Simons' Instagram stories. She shared a photo of an article where Maas reveals more information about the act for this year's contest, with the caption ‘I'm curious'.

Enough reasons for Dutch media such as RTL Boulevard and Televizier, to guess that Simons might be successor of the 2018 act Waylon. A fact that might make Simons' possible participation more believable, is that she's going to release a new song on January the 25th.

Simons is a judge in the Dutch version of Idol, but she is mostly known for her collaboration with Will.i.am. The song This Is Love charted worldwide, and became a number one hit in several countries.

For now, it's still unknown if Simons will really represent The Netherlands, or if she is just a big fan of the Eurovision Song Contest. Broadcaster AVROTROS has not confirmed yet when the artist will be announced. Cornald Maas only told SBS Shownieuws that the 2019 entry is very ‘unexpected'.

The Netherlands is historically one of the 10 most successful Eurovision countries. They have participated in Eurovision Song Contest 59 times since their debut in 1956, with four victories:

Since 1975 the best result for Netherlands was in 2014, when The Common Linnets ended second with the song " Calm After The Storm". They ended last in the contest 5 times: 1958, 1962, 1963, 1968 and 2011. Since the introductions of Semi-finals in 2004, they only qualified for the Grand Final 6 out of 15 times.
