Opening: Give Peace a Chance, Laura Pausini, Flag Parade

If you're not physically in Turin, you are now. That's how the Grand Final of Eurovision 2022 begins: on the streets of the host city. There are many people out in the streets, walking together and clapping. Someone plugs in a guitar, and someone starts playing the drums. People start singing the chorus to John Lennon's “Give Peace a Chance.“

We're now inside of the Pala Olimpico arena where we see Mika and Alessandro Cattelan joining in.

It's time for Laura Pausini. The Italian legend is also in charge of opening the show's Grand Final as she delivers a medley of some of her hits ("Lo Canto," "La Solitudine"), and in every song she wears a new outfit. Expect to see her in orange, white, blue, yellow and black. You'll be in for a treat with the quantity of dancers and fireworks, as well as the quality of the production.

We're ready for the flag parade: there are dancers with light sticks, and a rainbow behind the black structure. That rainbow gives place to explosions of sounds with the colors of each country's flag. On the catwalk there are graphics with that country's name.

Throughout the flag parade, there are two short breaks. The first one happens after Spain; the dancers are at the center of the stage with their light sticks that will also be colored with each country's flag's colors. The second break happens after Sweden.

Shortly after, a voice introduces the hosts: Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattelan and Mika.

The basics are introduced and translated into French, and then it's time.

Europe, Australia, Torino…

LET THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2022 BEGIN!

Commercial Breaks

After song number 8 (Armenia), the evening's first commercial break takes place.

For the viewers without commercials, we see Laura Pausini, now in a purple dress, and Mika speaking about the hard work done taking us up to this moment. A clip of the first Semi-final's best moments is aired. In it, every single entry (including the ones that did not qualify) have a moment to shine.

After song number 16 (Belgium), the second commercial break takes place.

The three hosts are reunited and use their time to promote the official CD and DVD of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. After some fun jokes, a new video segment follows with the best moments of the second Semi-final, which took place last Thursday.

After song number 21 (Australia), a moment to gain some time with Laura Pausini singing an a cappella version of "Volare" (Italy 1958). She's quickly supported by the audience in the arena.

Interval Acts: The Italian gestures, Måneskin, Gigliola Cinquetti, Mika

The three presenters are back on the main stage to explain the voting rules, and are quick to open the voting:

EUROPE! START VOTING NOW!

A first recap of all 25 performances is shown, followed by the first interval act of the evening.

The Italian Gestures

It's a dance segment based on the Italian gestures as important as speaking Italian, according to Mika who says he already knew those gestures even before speaking the language. The trio present a few of those, and a dancing crew invades the stage for a routine inspired by that.

This is also the mantra; to bring awareness to sign language. The hosts teach the audience and the viewers at home the sign for love, and after a quick video from the International Space Station follows.

Måneskin

Måneskin, last year's winners of the Eurovision Song Contest, is the next interval act.

The band performs their brand new single "Supermodel" for the very first time, and is briefly interviewed by Alessandro who asks about their experience with hitmaker Max Martin. Despite winning last year's Eurovision with the song "Zitti E Buoni," the group will not sing the song.

We head to the green room with Mika, who reminds the viewers to vote. A second recap of the night is shown and is followed by Alessandro, who seems to be somewhere in the area, promoting the Eurovision app and the official hashtags.

Gigliola Cinquetti

Laura Pausini is now with us to introduce Gigliola Cinquetti, the very first winner for Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest. The Italian legend performs her 1964 winning song, "Non Ho L’étà."

It's time for another "Eurovision Confidential" chapter. This time, the Eurovision voice judges the fashion choices of a few previous acts including Nonstop (Portugal 2006), Milan Stanković (Serbia 2010), amongst others.

Mika

There's still time for one more interval act. It's Mika, who performs a medley of some of his biggest hits like "Grace Kelly" and "Love Today," with a massive production. The American-Lebanese will also debut his brand new single, "Yo Yo."

A third and final recap follows, and then it's time...

Voting

The voting procedure will be the same as the previous five years. Each country will have two sets of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12 points to give. One set for each country's jury, and one set for each country's televoting.

  • Each of the 40 countries participating in this year's Eurovision will vote.
  • Each country has a national jury who gave one set of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12 points.
  • Each country will have televoting, which also results in a set of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12 points.
  • First, the juries' points will be presented individually by a spokesperson from each country.
  • Secondly, the points from televoting will be bundled and given combined.
  • Televoters and national juries have equal weight in the voting.
  • The national juries voted yesterday evening (Friday, 13 May) during the second dress-rehearsal.
  • If two countries have the same points, a combined national televoting and jury result will be calculated only for the purpose of solving tie situations. The best of the two is the song which has obtained points from the highest number of countries from the combined national televoting and jury calculation.

Shortly after the Grand Final, the detailed results, voting and points will be revealed.
