100 days – When does Eurovision begin?
Some media believe that Eurovision Song Contest begins on Saturday at the Grand Final, and are counting down for the Grand Final. We couldn't disagree more. We believe that Eurovision begins at the first Semi-final.
But what do you think?
It is not the Final Countdown. But it's the Semi-final Countdown! This is where Eurovision begins.
With 100 days left before the first show of Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin is aired, it's time for a round up of some of the facts we know so far about the biggest music competition in the world. The 2022-edition will feature 41 songs from 41 countries.
Eurovision Song Contest 2022 takes place in Turin, Italy:
- Semi-final 1: 10 May 2022
- Semi-final 2: 12 May2022
- Grand Final: 14 May 2022

5 countries are ready with songs and artists selected for Turin:

National selections
Preparations are at full speed in the 41 countries participating in Turin. The national selections peak in a few weeks, and so far 8 countries have started their selections, shows and competitions:
- Estonia: Eesti Laul – 4 Quarter-finals have finished. 3 more shows to go. Final on 12 February
- Israel: X Factor – 4 finalists and 8 songs. Final next Saturday (5 February)
- Lithuania: Pabandom iš naujo – 4 shows have been aired. Semi-final 2 next week. Final on 12 February
- Norway: Melodi Grand Prix – Halfway though. Three shows left. Final on 19 February
- Slovenia: EMA – The pre-selection EMA Freš has finished. Three more shows in February
... and many countries have revealed the contestants for their national selection.
So far we know that...
- 4 countries will select their entry the coming week! (Ireland, North Macedonia, Israel and Italy)
- 16 countries will select their entry in February
- 7 countries follow in March
The big Eurovision selection days will be the Saturdays 5 February (9 events), 12 February (8 events), 19 February (7 events) and 5 March (6 events). Still there are some countries who haven't announced the dates for their national selection, and still a few countries where it is unsure if they are organizing a national selection process, or just pick an act internally.
Semi-final allocation draw & Host Insignia Ceremony
The Semi-final allocation draw took place last Monday, where it was determined who's in which Semi-final. Also the "Big 5" (UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain) were distributed to the two semi-finals for voting.
The Host Insignia Exchange took place in Turin just before the allocation draw. Here the "Eurovision Keys" were handed over from Rotterdam city to Turin city. The Eurovision Keys exist of extreme weird key-hangers from each host the last many years.
Event
The host city is selected (Turin, in case you have been sleeping the last half year), and the dates are also set: 10, 12 & 14 May 2022.
The Arena is selected: Pala Olimpico. The logo and slogan have been revealed: The Sound of Beauty.
