Lithuania: The Roop to Eurovision 2021 – wins Pabandom iš naujo again

The Roop wins Pabandom iš naujo 2021 with the song "Discoteque" and will represent Lithuania at Eurovision 2021

Lithuania decided that The Roop aren't going anywhere.

After winning last year's Pabandom iš naujo, The Roop didn't give a chance to the competitors and won Lithuania's national selection Pabandom iš naujo again. This time with the song "Discoteque".

"Discoteque" is written by Ilkka Wirtanen, Kalle Lindroth, Mantas Banišauskas, Robertas Baranauskas & Vaidotas Valiukevičius.

Tonight's choice was once again split between the public and the jury, each accounting for 50% of the decision.

The jury panel was built off Stanislavas Stavickis-Stano, Jievaras JasinskisVytautas Bikus, Ieva NarkutéGerūta Griniūtė, Aistė Smilgevičiūtė (Lithuania 1999) and Ramūnas Zilny

The Roop

The band consists of Vaidotas Valiukevičius (vocals, keyboards), Robertas Baranauskas (drums) and Mantas Banišauskas (guitar) – based in Vilnius, Lithuania. The band is characterized as a mix of energy and feel. Their musical style is rock / pop rock / soft rock/ dance rock / indie.

The Roop's debut album To Whom It May Concern was released in 2015 and their second album Ghosts was released in 2017.

The band won the honour in 2020 to represent Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "On Fire" but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the show was cancelled.

The Roop were one of the favourites to win last year's contest according with the bookmakers which made the Lithuanian broadcaster offer the band a place in the country's national selection Grand Final.

The Lithuanian selection for Eurovision 2021 will consist of four shows:

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all of the shows will be pre-recorded before hand with the exception of the grand final. Vytautas Rumšas, Ieva Stasiulevičiūtė and Vaidas Baumila (Lithuania 2015) were in charge of hosting the shows.

Out of the finalists, only last year's winner, The Roop, were given a ticket to the show's final due to the cancellation of last year's Eurovision.

Lithuania has been taking part of Eurovision Song Contest 20 times since its debut in 1994.

The debuting year 1994 Lithuania ended last, and the best result is from 2006 where LT United performed the iconic song "We Are The Winners (of Eurovision)". It didn't win though, but went 6th. Since the introduction of the Semi-finals in 2004, Lithuania has been in Eurovision every year and qualified for the Grand Final 9 out of 16 times.

With both Estonias victory in 2001 ("Everybody") and Latvias victory in 2002 ("I Wanna"), Lithuania is the only Baltic country that haven't won Eurovision Song Contest.
