Kalush Orchestra's road to victory

24 February

Russia invades Ukraine

In the early hours of the 24th of February, Russian forces violate Ukrainian territory and starts a full scale invasion of Ukraine!

The same day, the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC takes action, and asks the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to suspend Russia's membership of the union and exclude Russia from Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

But EBU's cowardly response is, that they still welcome Russia at Eurovision Song Contest 2022!

Voting

The voting procedure was the same as previous five years. Each country had two sets of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10 and 12 points to give. One set for each country's jury, and one set for each country's televoting.

  • Each of the 40 countries participating in this years Eurovision could vote
  • Each country had a national jury who gave one set of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10 and 12 points
  • Each country had televoting which also resulted in a set of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10 and 12 points
  • First the juries points were presented individually by a spokesperson from each country
  • Secondly the points from televoting were bundled and given combined
  • Televoters and national juries had equal weight in the voting
  • The national juries voted the evening before the final (Friday, 13 May) during the second dress-rehearsal
  • If two countries had the same points, the best of the two was the song which obtained points from the highest number of countries. If the tying songs had received points from the same number of countries, the highest number of 12-point scores would be decisive. If the winner still couldn't be determined by this procedure, the number of times ten points have been awarded was the deciding factor. If necessary, this method continued until account has been taken of the number of times one point has been awarded
